Email To Wei Huan

Hi Wei Huan

Great to hear from you. I've been trying to get you on messenger but not so successful. The reminder on the status of car is useful. Do you want me to credit your account? If so, you can let me have your bank account number so I can deposit the cheque instead of passing it over to YJ.

These past few months are trying times for me. After your departure to Singapore and Australia, I need to get accustomed to staying alone. While I enjoyed the freedom and space there were times where I felt rather lonely. That's where the "girlfriend problem" crops up. However with supports from your Koko and
Wujie, I think I can pull through. Still the most important thing is my health. That is why I must continue with the daily morning exercise for half an hour. I should not miss it at all costs!

The other thing is of course the diet. I have to watch it very carefully, limiting the carbohydrates, fats and taking more fruits and vegetables. So just concentrate on your training and don't worry about me.

Love from Papa

Thanks again for helping with the sale of the car. Did you passed the car registration cert to the friend of your partner? Being a second hand car dealer, he'd probably not change the name on the guarantee until he has found a buyer. Make sure to get a letter from him certifying that he's taken delivery of the car and it is now under his care. Hi Wei Huan

Happy to note that you have cleared phase 1 of your training with good results.

I am fine here, healthwise is ok, the only thing being my overweight problem still persists. After every medical checkup, it seems, my weight will show higher reading than the earlier one. Now I am 80 kg!
I am trying to get more exercises through swimming. Hopefully I will lose some weight with also control of my diet and eating habits. Eating habits do have its effects-- with durian season over, now we have Mooncake festival! But don't worry because basically I am still fit, testimony is my walk around McRitchie Reservoir(not a problem at all) and my clean bills of health after recent medical tests. Most importantly I am quite consistent with my taiji and walking every morning.

Housekeeping/cleaning is no problem. The maid came after 2 weeks and she did a 4 1/2 hr job last Saturday.

While in Singapore last week, I again visited your Jiu-jiu at Bukit Merah. This time jiu-mu was there. They both inquired about you.

Now it is rather difficult to get you on the Yhaoo messenger. Sometimes I saw you are online, but it shows "idle". Its ok if you are busy or trying to get more sleep.

Hi Wei Huan

Good to receive your sms but you have yet to reply to my mail. But its ok since you are so busy. I have given the 7k cheque to YJ.
The long weekend will be over soon, tomorrow will be working day again. Erjie and sijie are back here in Penang, so I wasn't too lonely. Plus koko had been taking me to meals so I am fine.

Cheers!

Hi Wei Huan
I have not been able to get you to chat on the messenger, neither do I get a reply to my email. You are really busy I suppose. Its ok with me so long as to know that you are fine.
Last weekend I went to attend WUGU.s daughter's wedding at Langkap, Perak. I drove there and it was a good journey. I had no problem driving 300 km and returned.
Next week will be your birthday and YJ will be there to celebrate with you. Do let me know how you spend your birthday in Perth!

My trip to Singapore

Once again I had a good trip to Sin.kok from 29 Aug till 2 Sept. This time I could fly direct to Changi with Airasia. Keong was there to pick me up with his Merc 350. Another VIP treatment was taking me to visit the brand new ION complex at Orchard Rd, a joint venture of Capital-land and HK's Sun Hung Kai. There was definitely a big crowd.

The next day on Sunday morning, Nge and Keong took me to take their favourite walk around McRitchie reservoir which is 11 km in one loop. We took the clockwise direction. Halfway through we encountered some heavy rain. Fortunately we could take shelter at 7 km stop and also at final station, so I was not 100% soaked! The run is another testimony that I could still do it! So I had visited another new place, a place where many Singaporeans may not been there.

And then there were good foods during my visit, as usual. The crab feast at Ah Yat Turf City(Sheow took me there), the dim sum at Tin Gourt(天厨) at Copthorne Hotel(highly recommended by Keong) and the Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh (where even HK Governor could not taste it). Kiat just learnt how to make mooncake and she gave me 4 boxes apart from the usual pineapple tard. I had a full load and Airasia wanted to charge me because hand baggage cannot be more than 7 kg!

Again I have to thank folks in Singapore for their hospitality!

Many traps while traveling in China

Hi Hongling,

It is now very easy to go to China. For me there is a direct flight from Penang to Macau. And from Macau to Zhuhai is so near you can even swim across! And the cost is very affordable. If booked early during promotion by Airasia, a return flight to Macau can be less than RM300 all in. CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT!

The public transport system in China is also very good now. From Zhuhai you can take a bus to Fuzhou direct.

While I am still healthy and able to walk distances I will continue traveling. In fact, there is plan to go to Xian(西安) to see the Terracotta sculptures (兵马俑)this coming May.

This time around I learned a few things which I like to share with you. In China, while the security situation is good as far as our safety is concerned, we should be alert not to fall into the many traps we are likely to encounter.

The first trap is the forged RMB. My friend and I took a taxi to hotel which fare was RMB10. When my friend produced a RMB50 note to pay, the driver returned it and said "no change" and so I took out RMB10 to pay. My friend found out later that the returned note was a forged one. The driver was able to play a trick to exchange the RMB50 note with a forged one!

The second trap relates to exploitation of our sympathy. We met so many "beggers" in the form of baby-carrying mothers and also young girls who would come to us and ask for money. They said they need money to buy food for the baby who had been starving the whole day.
The young girls would say they came to the city to look for jobs but could not find one and they are starving too. They only asked for money for one meal but if you give only a few yuans they would say not enough. The trouble is they all say the same thing as if it came from the same scripts.

Of course there are other traps that we must be aware of. One good way to avoid falling into these traps is to shun the desire to get 'cheap- and-good' or 'once-in-a-lifetime' deals. And we must not let GREED gets the better of us!

And I will definitely travel to KL and Sin.kok on a regular basis.

Cheers!

Trip to Macau and Guangdong

Hi everybody,

I am back from a trip to China. This time I had the chance to see more places in the Guangdong province and Macau. I had wanted to go to Fujian and Hongkong as well but the weather was not so favourable. It was raining and the temperature was around 16 degree.

Foshan(佛山) is near within the greater Guangzhou and the main attraction was the Ancestor's Temple that also houses the Huang Fei Hong and Yip Man Museums. The 2 Gongfu masters draw a large number of visitors. It was worth the while since we were also entertained by wushu, lion dance and cultural performances.

Panyu (番禺) is another city close to Guangzhou. We took a Metro trip that costs only RMB7. There we visited the Safari/Zoo which is also very popular among tourists and locals because of the presence of rare 150 white tigers and 10 Pandas. The entrance fee was not cheap at RMB150 though as senior I enjoyed a concession rate of RMB80.

Zhuhai (珠海) is just next to Macau, a beautiful city having long coast lines and bountiful seafood, fresh and cheap. Its connections to various parts of China is easy through buses. A coach ride to Guangzhou is just over 2 hours. It is here I even saw buses with sleeping berths to longer distances like Fuzhou and Hunan. Trading activities in Zhuhai is brisk, you can buy so many things here that you do not need to go to Guangzhou unless you required bulk purchases. A hot item for sale now is the clone iPhone which only costs RMB750.

This trip being free and easy allowed me and my traveling partner to enjoy quite a sample of good food. Cantonese food is my favourite. For so many mornings we were enjoying the Dim sums at teahouses, very traditional ones especially in Guangzhou. We tried all the famous Cantonese dishes in the various categories like Noodles, Dimsums, Sarhofun/Chicheongfun, Tantong(steamed soup) and Tongshui (deserts).
Luckily for me this time around I did not put on weight because we went for quality rather than quantity.

I shall stop for now otherwise this mail becomes too long winded!

Turn of political events

The turn of political events this past week has been nothing short of dramatic effects. The existence of two Perak state governments, one headed by Nizar and his excos who refused to resign and the other headed by newly installed Mentri Besar Zambry. It is a forgone conclusion which one will prevail since BN enjoys the support of the civil administration, the police and the armed forces.

Then there are the forthcoming bye-elections, one the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat whose PAS MP passed away and the other a Kedah state seat of Bukit Selambau vacated by Arumugan due to intense pressure.

In view of the current world economic situation, while most countries are busy trying to put their countries into a sound financial footing, we are busy playing politics--trying to secure party hopping and preparing to face expensive bye-elections.

Friday, February 6, 2009

Dear Wei Huan

The week that was saw the BN took back Perak in a very crude manner. Najib had done a most despicable act in wresting back the state of Perak from Pakatan Rakyat. I also think that the Perak royal house, particularly the Sultan and the Raja Muda had lost a lot of respect along with their credibility and reputation, not only in the eyes of their Perak subjects, me included, but also in the eyes of the international community. Their previous high sounding talks on good governance and moral high ground are now looked upon as something for show only. The Malays says: cakap tak serupa bikin. The English says: what you practise is not what you preach! And the Chinese says:

But not to despair! Many analysts are of the view that this is not entirely bad for PR because they see this as a catalyst to speed up the downfall of BN! Come the next GE or bye-elections. the rakyats are going to give BN a bitter lesson! The chances of an alternative central government is even brighter now!

By the way how was the week for you? Everything went on smoothly I hope.
