Just returned from a good trip to Singapore (19-23 Oct). The main purpose is to introduce my girl friend to folks in Singapore and also my younger sister Ngor from Johore.
She was well received by all my elder sister Huan Ee's children, Kiat/Ting Chong, Nge/Meng Lian, Keong/Chen Jie and Sheow/Priscila Bee Hoon. I think it was mainly because they speak the same lingua. Kiat was especially generous, she sponsored our trip to Universal Studio (entrance charge SDG100 for 2)and gave my friend a fat angpow.
My friend was able to give a good performance in Kiat's kitchen in preparing her pork knuckle mienxian and the traditional staffed pork stomach/intestines. I think she also impressed upon them her sincere and simple personality.
I was able to take her around Singapore (mainly by the MRT, her first experience) to visit among others: The Garden by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands casino, Chinatown and the Esplanade. She was happy to try out some Singapore hawker food such as Hockkian Fried Prawn Mee, Koay teow soup, Popiah, Yong Taufoo, Fishhead Beehoon and of course seafood at Ah Yat at Turf City. She tasted The Nile (Red Feizhou), Long Tan (The giant Garoupa) and various types of Hongkong style Dim Sum.
All in all, it was a very successful trip that made both me and my friend very happy!
